Anointing of the Sick

If you are experiencing an illness, injury, impending surgery, or weakness due to age, there is powerful help available for you here in our Family of Parishes through the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick in which the priest prays, lays hands, and anoints the sick person with blessed oil. It may be preceded by the Sacrament of Reconciliation and followed by the Eucharist. The sacrament may be repeated if the recipient suffers from a different illness or injury or if the same illness or condition becomes more serious.

In the fall and spring of each year, our Family of Parishes offers a communal celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. We invite all who suffer in body, mind, and/or spirit to come and receive the community’s prayers and anointing. Within our community, our bonds of faith are formed by scripture and tradition, strengthened by prayer, celebrated in liturgy, and nourished by the Eucharist.

If needed, assistance with parking and walking into church will be available that day from our Knights of Columbus.

St. John Fisher celebrates the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick after each Mass on the fifth Sunday of the month, when applicable.

Another choice is to call and schedule a time to celebrate the sacrament at a weekday liturgy, or you may celebrate the sacrament at home with family and friends gathered in support and prayer. If there is an emergency situation, or you or someone in your family is incapacitated, the priest can come to the hospital, your home, or another location.
