Annual Day of Service – typically held on a Saturday in the spring, this is a family friendly event where volunteers assemble meals, hygiene bags for the homeless and power packs for children and package donated diapers for new mothers.
Food Distribution – The St. Gregory the Great Family participates in numerous food drives throughout the year in conjunction with various agencies throughout the city. Volunteers can donate food items and/or assist in packing and transporting the donations to the various agencies or designated popup pantries.
Food Preparation and Service – typically volunteers sign up for a shift for a few hours once a month to prepare and serve sandwiches or entire meals at various facilities, including those listed below. Volunteers may also decide to contribute to the preparation of the meal but not serve.
Neighbors in Need – volunteers may sign up to provide short term, ad hoc assistance to individuals experiencing challenges, whether though a death in the family, illness or a job loss. Assistance might include providing a meal or a ride to a doctor’s appointment, running errands, a fall yard clean-up, light house cleaning or maintenance, etc.
Prison Ministry – provides a number of opportunities to minister to the incarcerated and their families. Volunteer to visit and pray with incarcerated men and women in various facilities.
Angel Tree – provide Christmas gifts to the children of incarcerated men and women. Volunteers also deliver the gifts and provide support to the families during the difficult holiday season.
Christmas Cookies – bake cookies for corrections officers and incarcerated men and women
St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) – assists neighbors by giving material assistance to those in need, with resources coming solely from contributions made by parishioners. Members of SVDP visit neighbors in their homes, access needs, and provide help if possible for such things as rent, utilities, clothing, furniture or gift cards for food and gasoline.
Twinning – In support of Jesus’ call to Justice, the St. Gregory the Great family twins with a number of institutions in Kentucky and outside the United States. Volunteers may support the twinning communities monetarily, or by adopting a twinning family at Christmas, collecting donations of food and clothing, providing support for specific projects designated by the twinning community, and by sharing a meal and celebrating Mass together.
